This will be the U.S. premiere of Paul Pfeiffer’s The Long Count (Rumble In The Jungle), is the second of three works in which the artist has painstakingly removed Muhammad Ali from the boxer’s most famous bouts.
This piece continues his investigation of racial identity through his use of popular iconography, namely athletes and movie stars, across various media. Born in 1966 in Honolulu of Philippine descent, Pfeiffer has not had a great deal of public exposure until recently and has never before exhibited in the Boston area. Pfeiffer won the Bucksbaum Award from the Whitney Museum of American Art’s 2000 Biennial Exhibition.
